Juvenile delinquency matters are those involving a child who has committed or is accused of committing a crime. Society has recognized that children under certain ages are not likely to have the mental maturity to realize the consequences of their actions, and therefore should not be subject to the same procedures or outcomes more appropriate for adults. When a court finds that a juvenile has committed some crime, it may order a variety of actions to be taken, including time in a juvenile detention center or self-discipline-based institutions. These orders aim more at rehabilitating the child so that he or she can grow into a productive member of society, rather than punishing him or her. Once a person reaches the age of majority, any convictions or other records occurring while he or she was a juvenile are "cleared," or otherwise sealed from any type of public or government records.
At Barfoot & Schoettker we take these matters very seriously because a child's future is at stake. If you have a child that needs help navigating through the juvenile system call us today or submit a free case evaluation electronically.
